We had a big ol' spider who used to live by our door. When we got home late, he would always be out and about, busy with the flies attracted by our light. We always called him our old friend.
House spiders are good! They definitely keep the bugs out. Of course, when they get so big that you have to plonk them off the wall with a BB gun then it's time for them to go splat.
