Before I get started with whatever I'm going to be blabbering about today (I've got lots to blabber about, but I'm also in the middle of cooking dinner), how's abouts a really cool rainbow lorikeet pic?
Yeah, I agree with you: it's a pretty darned cool shot.
I have a challenge for KC way up north. Well, actually two.
First, try to find some James Boag's Premium Lager in Squarebanks and review it.
Next, is this galah male or female and how do you know:
I just thought I'd throw in the random flower picture, this is from the hibiscus TREE in the front garden (it flowers almost year round):
The flower is about 3 inches across, BTW.
Oh, quick temp update for all of you sourdoughs... today was 87 F in the shade and since there were high clouds I doubt it even made triple digits. Yesterday was the same in the shade, but 108 F in the sun (it was also hazy so it didn't get too warm). Our neighbors had their a/c on yesterday! Can you believe it? Wusses.
The huge black panther that hangs around the homestead spent the entire afternoon yesterday flopped on the hot bricks on the pool patio. I'm now treating him for sunburn... and then I'll treat myself for lacerations, broken bones, and fang 'n' claw marks on my arms and legs.

Oh bugger, I missed the contests:(
I like my hibiscuits with butter and a little honey. Or jam - preferably homemade low-bush cranberry.
FEMALE!!! Her eyes are red.
Yeah, I know, I'm not KC. Sorry, I couldn't help myself.
Alaskan Dave you crack me up!
Ishmael you too crack me up!
Yes, that one landing is an awesome picture!
Ha ha - my word verification is "wanout". I wan out!
Challenge a: Sure! I'll check around to see if I can find some. I'm always open to new beers!
Challenge 2: I'm going with `male` on the basis that it lacks antlers.
(I mentioned I'm primarily a game biologist, right?)
Okay, so 15 minutes of digging through books later (why are most of the birds in my library North American? Damn us North American chauvinists!), I read that it's a female, based on the iris colour. Amusingly enough, it turns out I could have answered this question in 5 seconds using wikipedia.
ohhhhhh beautiful hibiscus! Unfortunately ours don't live past fall in Ohio and we have to re-buy them annually. I love them!
Suzer: I'll make you a screensaver or wallpapers, no worries :)
Ish: I like mine with gravy.
Tundratantrum: AHA! At least one person actually reads the captions!
SV Meerkat: So, like are Ish and I both crackheads? BTW, I keep heading out to the beach to look for you... are you getting close?
KC: Thought you might like a new beer. Did I make you late for work again? The gender of the galah is about the easiest of all the Aussie parrots. The big sulfur crested cockatoos have the same iris difference. Except one is black and the other is dark red. You need to be about a foot away to tell with them.
Fizzgig: Dang, I didn't know hibiscus dies in frost. Ours flower pretty much year round. I'll get some more shots of them soon.
